i won't mention family favorite a holiday affair, because it doesn't suck, but it's a short putt to lead with mixed nuts: juliette lewis as the madonna, adam sandler before he started reading his clippings, and madeline kahn make up for the rkf (robert klein factor). plus it's set in venice.

Re: Crappy Holiday Movies that Don't suck
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 11:58 AMWow... it's really difficult to think of "Crappy Holiday Movies that Don't suck", since most holiday movies are either crappy and suck big reindeer balls, or don't suck at all.
Big suckage:
Jingle all the Way (withArnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad)
Surviving Christmas (with Ben Affleck and Tony Soprano)
Christmas With the Kranks (Tim Allen is the new Dean Jones)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (No, Ron Howard. Bad)
Fred Claus (I know enough to stay far away from this turd)
Deck the Halls (aka Ferris Bueller vs. the Penguin)
...forget it. The list goes on and on. Just rent Gremlins and be done with it. And avoid the Star Wars Holiday special if you're out of drugs. -

Re: Crappy Holiday Movies that Don't suck
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 12:33 PMI am probably the only one in the world who can't stand A Christmas Story.
It's inauthentic. Any midwest kid knows what to do when you get your tongue stuck to a frozen pole. You just jerk backwards, admire the dotted little tongue patch and damp spot that remains, and go inside to comfort yourself with cocoa.
Hell, we used to do that for fun. -

Re: Crappy Holiday Movies that Don't suck
Mon, December 17, 2007 - 12:23 PMIt's not that I can't stand "A Christmas Story" -- I just think it's kind of really really really really really overrated. But I love Darren McGavin.
My favorite holiday film is 1995's "Reckless" with Mia Farrow (www.imdb.com/title/tt0114241/). I saw it once when it first came to theaters and never again. It was great...a dark comedy for people like me who can taste the bile rising in the back of their throats at the mere mention of the word "holiday". I don't think it's available...anywhere. But I remember loving it. Anyone else ever see it?
