They Live

I just saw this again recently. Obviously it's not a great movie -the lead is played by pro wrestler Roddy Piper, whose acting is about on the level of Steven Seagal. But it's funny and suspenseful in a B-movie sort of way. Better yet, it has a real message. When people put on special sunglasses, they can see not only that there are aliens among us posing as humans, but the subliminal messages like "Obey" and "Conform" that are all over the media. This movie actually has a lot of truth, despite a silly plot, if you look at it symbolically.

Hell Comes to Frogtown: good call. i think rowdy roddy is one of the world's most underrated actors.

Genre wise it is a great movie. It shouldn't be and yet it is. I'm fond of "Escape from New York" too, also from John Carpenter.

I like that one too, along with Escape From L.A. I forgot that Carpenter did all of those, but I can see the similarity when I think about it.

i just saw they live too, and i have to agree. i hadn't seen it since it came out, and it holds up well. rowdy roddy is great in it. two scenes that were just as good as i remembered them were the fight scene that goes on and on and on, and the ending.

    whatever happened to john carpenter?

I love that fight scene! It's like for awhile, you really couldn't tell who was winning.

Just added it to my netlix queue, thanks guys.

I actually use this goofy tribe as a source of movie recommendations, and I usually end up enjoying them.

        Cool when that happens.

And let's not forget THE quintessential quote from They Live: "I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of bubblegum."

Great crap movie. I forgot all about this movie. I'll have to stick it on my Netflix queue to watch with my crap-movie-loving son.

So I finally saw this movie.

Awesome! Entirely fun way to spend an otherwise dull Saturday evening, and a consummate example of a crappy movie that doesn't suck.

The Meg Foster character: alien and creepy in a whole other way somehow, just with her own eyes.

I got plenty of bubblegum. What happens when you're all out of ass?
