First time through, this left me cold. Too draggy to be entirely dramatic.
But it was on late-night tv the other night, and I happened to be up with nothing else to do. Visually, it's really amazing. Tilda Swinton is downright disturbing as Gabriel, and some of the visuals--such as a guy's face on the floor, talking as it disintegrated--were extraordinary. Then there's the demon trapped in the mirror, and the bathtub scene....
People are going to throw monkey feces at me, but Keanu Reeves is good in this, and he is often underrated.

Sun, April 26, 2009 - 9:59 AMSaw this the other day on TV...it was better than anticipated. And, yeah, I'd probably pair it with "Dogma" as a double-feature.

Re: Constantine
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 9:36 PMThere were only 2 good things about Constantine....
#1 - Tilda Swinton as Gabriel
#2 - Peter Stormare as Satan (excellent Satan btw, better than Viggo Mortensen's in The Prophecy).
Keanu was very wooden in this movie (not as much as in The Day The Earth Stood Still). Plus you then compare his John to the one from the comics Constantine was based upon and its lights out. No contest. -

Re: Constantine
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 2:05 PM...that's like saying that Kevin Costner uses a Southern Californian accent in a particular movie.

Re: Constantine
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 10:10 PMMad, I meant more than usual.
I can accept a certain amount of wooden acting but Keanu finds new and better ways to exceed my expectations. -

Mon, April 27, 2009 - 10:13 PMLike for instance, The Day The Earth Stood Still....
I thought I saw the Redwood Forest on that screen.

Re: Constantine
Wed, June 3, 2009 - 4:27 PMOh this movie was just terrible and I have to put the blame on Keanu's acting.
I actually watched this flick twice thinking that perhaps I just had the giggles the first time. This was not the case.
