Highly, highly recommended. This is not only a perfect example of a crappy movie that doesn't suck, it's actually a crappy movie that's compelling and good (except for some plot implausibilities and deliberate cheese).

Kyle McLaughlin plays an FBI agent (pretty much the way he played Dale Cooper, a quietly repressed freakshow, except this time with a much flatter affect) working with a snide LA cop (Michael Nouri of Flashdance!) on the trail of a crazed killer who likes to steal ferraris and other consumer goods, and kill anybody who gets in his way. As an action movie, it's really well edited. As sci fi, which it turns out to be, it's really not half bad either. And it brings back the mood of the '80s in some intangible way.

I will toss my chip in with:I will piss of a lot diehard geeks here, but hear me out. I feel like the Lord of the Rings series was overrated. I am not saying I didn't like it. I just felt like it was propped up on this pedestal of one of the greatest 15 movies of all-time when I think its quite a bit below that. According, to the Top 250 on IMDB this is how they are rated: Return of the King is the third greatest movie of all time, The Fellowship of the Ring is the 8th greatest, and the Two Towers was rated 11th. I realize on IMDB there is a bias to newer movies because so many more young people use the internet. But come on, their rankings blew away Gone with the Wind, Raging Bull, and other notable greats. As a kid, I loved the books and I am a big fan of Peter Jackson(see Dead Alive), but I felt even Jerry Bruckheimer (that might be going a bit far)could have done the movie and people would still have loved it. When I see a movie, I want to see an original concept. As hokie as Star Wars was it was great because it was fresh. Sure it drew from various sources like Kurosawa's Kakushi toride no san akunin(ironically isn't in the top 250) but made a completely new creature.

What I wanted to share though is something that makes many movies of this sort better: the drinking game. For Roadhouse we do it like this. Beer only, no really. Anytime anyone's name is said you drink. If it's Brad Wesley or Dalton you drink twice. Have at least four beers each person and six is really more the count. Thats how many I went through last time I played. Enjoy!

It's a crappy delight, a faux silent movie, recent but made in 1920s style by the H.P. Lovecraft Society. There's references to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, clunkily and somewhat unconvincingly rendered silent cinema camera techniques, really wordy straight from Lovecraft intertitles, and a sort of homage to Ray Harryhausen in the monsterbation.

But it ends up being a metaphor for all kinds of things--suburban alienation, the unattainability of the American dream, sexual alienation between men and women. The fact that Tom Tryon, the actor/novelist (the guy who wrote one of my favorite crappy '70s tv movies Harvest Home actually!), plays the part of a young suburban husband but also appears stereotypically gay, adds a whole other dimension of alienation-otherness.

Man...have I found the right Tribe! Loooove the baaaad movies...

I saw this when I was a kid and thought it was pretty creepy. My 12 year old son is way into horror now, but I'm trying to steer him away from excessive gore. Saw this on Netflix and rented it for him. We watched it last night and laughed our asses off. Besides the blatant stupidity of the premise--Jessica has just been released from a mental institution, so let's drive her in a refurbished hearse to an abandoned farmhouse with a bad history in some weird-ass isolated town (that apparently they knew nothing about) which has neither mental health facilities nor law enforcement as best I can tell, where the focal point of the town is a grave yard, filled with hostile, sliced and bandaged old people and one skinny mute girl running around in a nightgown... and when we find there is a mysterious squatter inside said creepy house (the only character who is even remotely attractive, I might add...you could be ugly and still work in the 70s)--instead of shooting/arresting her ass--let's invite her to stay!!

So many wonderful bad moments, mostly from Jessica herself: Zohra Lampert (don't feel bad that you don't know who she is), an Olive Oyl awkward, gapped-toothed, slightly crosseyed, comically ugly woman who shrieks like a chicken, is priceless. Craptastic acting, pink blood and as illogical as any vampire/zombies/or-is-she-just-insane kind of movie is. If they had the Razzies back then, she would've swept the awards. I won't go into any detail here because I'm hoping some of you guys will watch it so you can laugh at it with me.

Oh, and here's the best part...it's still sorta creepy. No matter how laughable it is--oh, and it is--there were still a couple of times I jumped.

One of my favorites...check it out!

Obviously it's not a great movie -the lead is played by pro wrestler Roddy Piper, whose acting is about on the level of Steven Seagal. But it's funny and suspenseful in a B-movie sort of way. Better yet, it has a real message. When people put on special sunglasses, they can see not only that there are aliens among us posing as humans, but the subliminal messages like "Obey" and "Conform" that are all over the media. This movie actually has a lot of truth, despite a silly plot, if you look at it symbolically.

But it all somehow doesn't work, even by really sucky movie standards.

All in all, I'd categorize it as one of the movies I wish I could see because it sounds so cool but remains forever unattainable, rather than a cool-sounding movie that I now wish I hadn't seen, because it's really just mostly annoying.

"Showgirls" was a very significant movie for me insofar as it opened my mind to the concept of "So Bad It's Good." I'm now obsessed with finding any form of media (the concept doesn't apply to sex or food, unfortunately!) that is SO bad that it's hysterically funny and/or greatly entertaining.

The most exemplary moment of this concept in "Showgirls," I think, was when Nomi is sitting in the fast food joint with her future roommate (blanking on character's name), who asks her an innocuous question, "Where are you from?" And Nomi goes fully over-defensive/over-acting on this and screams "DIFFERENT PLACES!!!!!" and throws her french fries all over the place. I laugh my head off every time I see that scene.

Would love to hear y'all's own special "Showgirls" moments, or just general feedback.

Why do the vampires sound like velocerapotrs?
Why drive the one machine that is actually killing the vampires into a building and blow it up?
If your goal is to blow up said monsters, why not wait until you've actually lured them in to drop the lit flairs?
If your good friend has recently been turned and is leaning over a big machine that shreds things (and you just saw it work on another vampire), why go through the torment of chopping his head off?
Even the sound editing was bad; someof the music and background sound didn't even make sense!
Leonardo doesn't even bother to fake a French accent, and Thewlis speeks with a very Victorian English one.The paper-thin posing for profundity (as in such scenes where Dicaprio breaks a statuette of a dog that does not belong to him, the owner comes back and demands an explanation and he replies,"dogs are all liberals")
The acting is so horrid that it makes the copious underaged homosexual anal sex seems almost palatable and enjoyable in comparison.
Yet..it's hilarious - it's funny without TRYING to be funny. It's an unintentional masterpeice and classic when viewed from this angle.
It's not technically crappy. It's well made and has stars in it at all. You kind of have to mind the silly plot that doesn't actually hang together. It's so much fun to watch that it definitely doesn't suck--with somewhat Airplane-like dialog. It's so strange and shaggy doggish though that I have no idea how it ever got out of Hollywood. It's also the first time I liked Hanks in anything.

But I actually really dug Pirates III, much more than I expected. It's currently getting really horrible reviews, but I think that the people who didn't like it never tried hallucinogens. It's the trippiest, most surreal Hollywood blockbuster I've ever seen. There are a couple of truly amazing scenes--one a sort of Being Jack Sparrow Malkovich multiplicity, and two others involving mythological proliferations of little crabs.

I recently saw "The Committee" filmed in 1968 in Great Britain with Brian Jones (who played in Manfred Man). It was written by a professor at the London School of Economics (forgot his name) and dealt with the ideas of R.D. Laing, who was a radical psychiatrist who was all the rage back then and had recently come out with a book called "The Politics of Experience." He and Aldrous Huxley were required reading for my generation of stoners. The film was ok - b bit ponderous and artifical but fun as a representation of the times, especially in more intellectually friendly GB. My question to y'all is: What films do you think address philosophy or philosophical issues directly? Any?

A lamebrain satire on the American music industry, written & directed by a humorless Hebrew and shot in Germany, it is the film that holds the distinction of having made a friend say, "I think my brain cells are dying." (Insert your own joke here about Jews, "shot in Germany" & dying, 'cause I won't go there.)

If you have any doubts of its unmatchably ham-handed (sheesh...lucky I'm Jewish or I'd NEVER get away with these jokes) approach to humor, please check out any of the stills I've posted. And please, if you've survived this futuristic, Biblically inspired, sexually sniggery and at times quite lunatic example of WHY movie musicals are only now coming back into fashion, share your thoughts. It will do you good to vent.

this is the biggest piece of crap that doesnt suck

I rented this on a suggestion from a friend while ago and well I had to steal this from the online rental place.

I am too tired to write about all the crazy shit cause there is TOOOOO damn much
The princess is topless with granny panties the whole movie and it also has an old jewish guy from new york playing a little kid in a boy scout uniform and it has all the music by danny elfman before oingo boingo and was directed by his brother and it has the little dude from fantasy Island as the king of the 6th demension

still too much crazy shit to write the whole damn movie is fucking nuts in an awsome way
